The River – Season One, Episode 1: “Magus (Part One)”

The latest horror TV series has just premiered! But is it better than other horror series?

Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity) and Steven Speilberg (Jurrassic Park, Jaws) team together  to create a found footage horror series about a crew on a research boat that are on a quest to find an explorer who mysteriously disappeared. Hearing that is came from the help of Steven Speilberg really baffles me.

Hugo

A movie for true movie veterans

Martin Scorsese is famous for his graphic portrayals of violence in movies, so the question many would ask is – why head into family friendly territory? His experiment has paid off with tremendous results with a movie which for a much needed change, doesn’t treat children like they’re stupid and gives loving respect to early cinema.

SPOILER WARNING

As a fan of the Conan Doyle novels & short stories (having read most of them at least twice), I enjoyed the originality of the first film’s plot, with a new villain as a bonus. Josiah’s Top and Bottom 5 Movies of 2011

This year at the movies, I was generally impressed by most of the movies I watched – and although this year’s best movies haven’t been quite up to scratch with the best of previous years, it has been a more consistent year all round. There weren’t any movies that were quite the apple in my eye the same way Inception was, neither were there any movies that ticked every box in the awful category like The Last Airbender. This is my list of favorite and least favorite movies of 2011.
